Greenwater
Lake 2003
Welcome to
Greenwater! This was one of the most enjoyable weekends
we've spent together. For one of the first times we got
together without the pressure of a show, and taking the llamas
for a swim in the lake, then a great two hour hike was
fantastic! We are going to repeat this weekend every
summer. Why don't you join us?

Now how's this for an
impressive shot? This is the group of us (minus a couple
that stayed back to answer questions and do some public
relations in the parking lot) standing on the bridge over
Greenwater Creek. We are just about to set off on our
hike.

This is a good example of
what happened everywhere we went -- the public was extremely
curious about our animals, and it was a great opportunity for
some close interaction! We had no "planned"
events, but spent a lot of the time that weekend visiting with
families who just had to stop and see what was going on.

Dispelling two myths
here: one, llamas and dogs cannot get along, and two,
rotty's are evil! The llamas were certainly curious
about the dogs (there were two along on this hike) but
recognized that they were "good dogs" and not a
threat. Llamas are very intelligent and will pick up
what belongs and what doesn't in a short amount of time.

The terrain we were hiking
through was absolutely beautiful,
and even the bugs kept their distance.

Greenwater Park provided
us with an excellent spot to make camp over the weekend - we
had lots of room to move trailers around and set up tents, as
well as pasture our llamas.

In the evenings we took
the llamas for a swim at the shore. The first night a
few of them were a little nervous, but after 10 minutes they
were fine and enjoyed walking in the shallows as much as the
handlers.

Of course, llamas in the
lake draw attention, and soon a crowd had gathered, so
producers took some time to let them pet the llamas, and
answered questions.
